As children grow into adolescence, they become more open to influences by their peers. During these important years of development they need continued guidance with decision-making and values. Having a mentor to help them along the way improves their chances of succeeding socially and scholastically and in avoiding negative behaviors. We provide group activities that bring older and younger “brothers” together for group activities like pumpkin carving or Christmas ornament decorating.
We also bring in guest speakers, like our recent visit from Ashton Hagans. Ashton joined the parks and rec 10U football team’s post-practice to share his experience from the time he grew up in Cartersville to his NBA Experience.
Sound mind -sound body! We want to help our community raise well-rounded young people so that they can realize their full potential in every aspect of their lives. Whether it is through our ACT prep courses, or assistance with college visits, we want to facilitate opportunities that enhance their educational experience for a brighter outcome.
In a time when we’re more likely to find our kids in front of a screen than on a ball field, the positive impact physical activity has on our children is more important than ever. Unfortunately, not all children have the opportunity to join in organized sports.
Physical activity goes beyond impacting just a child’s heath: Studies show that those engaged in sports have a greater tendency to create social bonds, and are less likely to become involved in crime or delinquency. Sports gives children an outlet to keep them active, have fun and learning valuable life skills. It shows them how to win graciously and — when things don’t go your way — how to deal with life’s disappointments.
With your help, we can continue to teach and inspire our kids. We can show them how to give back to the community and prepare them to succeed on and off the playing field.
When kids see us helping out, we help them understand their responsibility to pay it forward and become responsible stewards of their community. We want to promote community involvement by supporting organizations that are aligned with our mission. We do this by adopting a classroom or two, helping in drives for health and beauty supplies for the homeless (through the Bless Coalition) and we recruit volunteers to help out at the various events such as Give a Kid a Chance.
